Optical Quantum Communication

New techniques will be developed for transferring quantum information between photons and between photons and solid state. Transferring quantum information between photons will then be applied to novel quantum communications schemes.

Key objectives, working in collaboration with other QIP IRC groups in Sheffield and Bristol are:
• Demonstrate conditional phase shifts in a dot-microcavity system
• Demonstrate a 4-photon cluster state and evaluate a fibre based 6-photon test-bed
• Demonstrate improved entangled photon sources from dots and interference between photons from different sources, thus transferring entanglement between spatially separate sources
• Demonstrate entanglement swapping using fibre sources
• Develop and test generic counting and timing hardware
