Theory and Modelling of Atom Chips
In order to develop the theory and modelling for the specific implementation of atom chips, the understanding of decoherence mechanisms for atoms near metal and dielectric surfaces will be extended. The measurable effects of electromagnetic-field fluctuations in microstructured solid-state environments using our first-principles Green function technique will be studied. This work involves close interaction with the experimental group of Hinds at ICSTM (Imperial) especially in the identification of experimentally relevant parameters and the Leeds group and the Plenio group on cavity qed theory.
