The QIP IRC report into the commercial prospects for Quantum Information Processing has now been published.
This study by MBA students at the Saïd Business School focuses on how the opportunities for commercialising QIP technology may develop. Contributors include leading QIP and scientific researchers from both academia and industry, and information from potential users of the technologies.
The report identifies both potential quick wins and longer-term commercial opportunities. In terms of applications, quantum encryption, quantum metrology, quantum auctions, quantum gaming, and tasks in scheduling and optimisation are considered. The report also discusses the political and social implications of the technology, and the issues which may arise on the way to commercialising QIP.
