Congratulations to Dr Beige who has been involved with QIP IRC since the collaboration began in 2004, initially at Imperial College and more recently at Leeds.

Her research interests include the efficient use of measurements and dissipation to assist quantum computational tasks. The aim of this research is to find out whether there are fundamental limits that forbid the coherent control of macroscopic and easy-to-build quantum systems. To answer this question she and her group plan to design new physical systems and to construct efficient and robust quantum gates for them. As an example, they have already designed atom-cavity systems in which the successful generation of the desired entangled state is heralded by a macroscopic fluorescence signal. The scheme is highly robust against parameter fluctuations and might open new perspectives for scalable solid state quantum computing.
